The common room was just to crowded for his liking these days with all the extra Slytherins lounging about. Sure it was nice to learn of things that they'd experience later on in their lives but it was too much on some days.
As he walked down toward the placid black lake the wind blew in hard gusts whiping his hair and cloak all out of place, making him seem out of character. He let out a sigh as he kicked a rock and ran a hand through his long blonde hair pulling it off his face.
He walked over to the tree that everyone seemed to like to sit under while they were out here, he didn't quite see the attraction. Though that could be the fact that he was raised not to dwell on the little things like nature. Rather then sitting like everyone else he leaned up against the the trunk of the tree and looked out over the lake, deciding that today he'd actually enjoy nature and its so called miracles.

Lily walked the school grounds with her nose in a book. She, too, had been feeling a bit crowded with all of the extra students hanging around and she'd already decided that she didn't want to know anything about her future self. What was the point in reading a book if you already knew how the story ended? She was the last person who wanted to take away the mystery that was her future.
She wasn't really paying attention to her surroundings much as she felt safe enough behind a book... like she wouldn't have to avoid talking to people she didn't know because people normally didn't come up to talk to her when she was reading. All she knew was that soon she'd have to watch out for the lake.
To tell the truth, she hadn't decided that she didn't want to know her future until after she'd spoken with Harry. He seemed to be such a sad person and if that was what the future held, she really didn't want to know. She was too easily distracted from the moment to allow herself to find out that something terrible would happen or that something wouldn't go as she'd planned.

Lucius heard someone's foot steps, bringing him out of his daydreaming state. He blinked a couple of times before tearing his vision away from the lake. He looked around the grounds and saw that Evans girl that Potter was always talking about or talking to. He rolled his eyes and noticed that her head was stuck in a book. He saw her walking towards the lake not watching where she was going, kind of hoping she'd walk right into the lake.
Now if he was in any other house then Slytherin and she was a mudblood he may have said something to her. But thinking that watching her walk into the lake would be amusing he stayed silent and watched her hoping that she wouldn't noticed. He crossed his arms over his chest, while leaning up against the tree trunk.

Lily stopped at the very edge of the water, just looking down in time to see that she'd got her shoes wet. Sighing, she closed the book and took off her shoes, deciding it best to sit down now rather than continue walking around without paying attention. Next time, in stead of getting wet she could find herself straying too close to the whomping willow.
She lay back in the grass, closing her eyes and thinking for a moment before she opened them to see the upside down figure of Lucius Malfoy leaning against a tree. Great, she thought, sighing and sitting back up. He was probably one of the last people she wanted to see right now... and she guessed he wasn't too thrilled to see her either.

To admitt it, he was quite dissappointed that she didn't walk right into the water. It was even worse when she took off her shoes and sat down, meaning that she'd probably be staying a while. It was bad enough he had to work with her sometimes, since she was a prefect and he was head boy. He smirked when she looked at him from where she was lying, noticing the look of discontent on her face.
"Just when I though today was going to be a good day." he said coldly as he straighted himself out no longer leaning up against the tree. He brushed himself off and took a couple of steps closer to her, hoping that that damned Potter and his crew wouldn't show up.

"But, of course, you absolutely had to say something," she said sarcastically, thinking it odd that he would insinuate that her presence had ruined his day when she was perfectly intent on not saying anything to him. She hadn't really expected him to remain silent, though. After all, this was Lucius Malfoy she was talking about.
She sighed again, grabbing her book in one hand and her shoes in the other and turning to face him. She was waiting for some insult or retaliation... most people probably wouldn't wait for that but she'd been around these people for seven years now so she knew there was no avoiding them. She was a muggleborn. That was that.

He smirked smugly at her comment. She wasn't like the rest of her kind. She was more a challenge to insult, she retalliated more then the rest of them. And whether he'd admit it or not aloud that's why he talked to her. "Would you expect anything less?"
he said watching her retrived her book, probably a muggle fiction one, he thought. He was bored and wanted something to do, so he took some time to pick his next words carfully so that she jus didn't walk off. He figured he'd bring Potter into this to make it worse. "Wheres the boyfriend today?" He asked her still looking at her, almost glaring.

"Boyfriend?" she asked, raising an eyebrow curiously. She knew very well who he'd been referring to but if she acknowledged him thusly, she'd probably never live it down. No, she would much prefer to pull the oblivious card. She was very tired of comments about her and her "boyfriend" but it was yet another thing she couldn't stop. They were still teenagers, after all.
Lucius was the type of Slytherin who wasn't above using any insult he could come up with so she expected to hear them all. That didn't make them any less annoying but it did help in keeping her from blowing up on him as she would on, say, James.

He knew of course that she wouldn't admit that he was talking about Potter, well because he'd never let her forget that. He was impresed slightly that she was able to keep her cool, most people would stupidly pull a wand on him. "Still not admitting it then I see." He said still keeping his eyes on her, but not staring.
He let a small smirk make it's way onto his lips as another comment made it's way into his mind. "If I were you I wouldn't be that picky, not many Purebloods would want your kind." He said coldly.

Lily scoffed. Did he really think that she cared whether or not she dated a pureblood? "You assume someone like me would ever want to date someone as full of themselves as you? I think I'll pass," she said, shaking her head. She shifted slightly so she would have a better chance of getting her wand should the time call for it.
As must as she hated to admit it, Lucius Malfoy was rather intimidating. He was a very capable wizard... deadly in a duel... and he didn't seem to be held back by any semblance of morality. While that made him a terrible person in her eyes, it was a bad thing to find in an enemy. Especially for someone who had such strong moral fiber.

"Oh, and I'm more arogant then Potter, am I?" He said watching her move slightly, figuring that she was making it easier for herself to defend herself against him. That didn't worry him in the slightest, though he wasn't in that kind of mood today.
"No need for a wand, I perfer to duel with someone more at my level" He said with a smirk. Making the comment more so that her idea of him being full of himself wasn't a total lie.

Lily decided against responding to his first comment as she really was having a hard time deciding whether she thought he was or wasn't more arrogant. Instead, she just ignored it to respond to the next. "Right... wouldn't want to be embarrassed by a mudblood, would you, Lucius?" she asked tauntingly.
Responding thusly when he so obviously wasn't going to make an attempt at fighting her was really out of character for Lily but she was in a strange mood today and he really wasn't helping it. She had a feeling, though, that she would be regretting her odd behavior.

He let out a laugh, which was out of character for him but her comment was a joke. He would never think that she would be capable of beating him in a duel, usually because he fought slightly dirty, but you have to when facing off against other Slytherins.
"I just thought I'd left you leave unharmed, physically." He said glaring at her with his cold grey eyes. "But by all means if you'd like to challenge me, I surely wont back down." He said going back to just looking at her. He last comment was kind of daring her into a duel. Though he didn't care if she accepted it or not.

Lily scoffed again. "I wouldn't give you the satisfaction," she said. She would never be the one to start a duel... particularly when there was no reason for it. Sure, there were always a few exchanged insults between the two but nothing serious had ever happened... not so far, at least. If they were ever going to fight, it wouldn't be because of her.
Lily thought of Lucius as a bad guy instinctively and she'd seen how he fought. She knew that she was a talented witch and could beat most but he was right, she'd never be able to deflect his darker spells. There were reasons she dared not even look into the dark arts...

"I almost forgot who I was talking to." He said sounding some what disappointed, though it was a sarcastic one. He knew that she would never agree to a duel, that being the reason behind why he never reached for his wand. Another reasoning being that he'd probably end up in detention for weeks, and that was not his thing.
